FROM THE PRESIDENT
The last month has been highlighted by some major events and great performances by members of Triathlon Tasmania. The inaugural “Hell in the Hills” point-to-point triathlon, held as part of the MyState Triathlon State Series was a great success, despite challenging conditions. Competitors were tested by the course but also treated to great hospitality by the Kentish Council. I would like to thanks the Cradle Coast club for developing and running this event to all volunteers and officials involved and to sponsors for their support.
We have the final MyState states series race coming up at Beauty Point with the Launcetson Triathlon Club hosting the race on 14 March. This promise to be a great event and with points still up for grabs in the series I am sure we will see some great performances to cap of a great series and season.

Summers over L
Thankfully race season isn’t. Quiet month February huh? Not likely!!
Don’t know where to start with news from this month. Big results all over the place. The Armstrong/Hitchens battle still in full swing, in particular with some awesome results in Geelong 70.3. Weitnauer, Percival and Wilson-Haffenden bringing home plenty of medals from the Australasian Police and Emergency games, which thanks to a few tri south members and some race organiser guy from the North west ran pretty well. (well done Kerry), of course Emmas medals were won just a few days after the gruelling Summer Survival, where there were plenty more Tri south members having a go and taking podium spots. Donna Macfarlane, Chris Sullivan and others with some great results on the inaugural Run the Bridge 10km. Superfish Mia Blignaut returning to racing at the Hell in the hills casually sitting on Gambles feet for the swim, and also winning the trans Derwent swim this month. Kellevie 6 hour, Wildside MTB, our first VERY successful twilight super sprint triathlon, our first Saturday race, first open water swim, Jellyfish stings, bike stacks in the wet and wind, choppy swims, rescues - All that in the last month or so? Surely not. No time to be bored in the south of the state.
One race left to come, the annual Tri south handicap race. There will be a slight change this year, in that there will be no mass start and athletes will start according to their handicap time. Good chance for the usual front runners to have to catch up to a few.
Also this month good luck to a few attempting their first Ironman, either in Taupo or Port Mac.
Make the most of the dwindling twilight training hours everyone, see you at a race soon.

Cradle Coast Triathlon and Multisport’s great year continues. The inaurgural Kentish Hell in the Hills Triathlon was a great success and we thank everyone who supported the event. Our TRYstars training days continue to provide our junior members with inspiring and valuable advice and experience. We congratulate Matt Gaby, Andrew Watson and Fraser Lyon who were identified as Fairbrother Development athletes. We are also proud to see that Amelia Pearson (athlete of the year) and Craig Redman (coach of the year) were named as finalists in the Tasmanian Sports Awards and we wait in anticipation for the announcement! Sadly we have to say goodbye to one of our founding members and secretary who has been transferred to the South of the state for work, we wish Karen Brown all the very best. Finally, many of us are looking forward to racing the 4th and final race of the state series at Beauty Point!

ITU JUNIORS
The Australian Junior Triathlon Championships were held recently in Sandringham, Victoria. Dylan Evans put in an amazing run leg after a solid swim and bike combination to finish 16th and the highest placed Tasmanian. Unfortunately Luke Geelan crashed on the bike leg and Jonathan Butler was also a DNF, but no doubt the boys gained valuable experience to take with them to their next event.
