FROM THE PRESIDENT
The Tasmanian triathlon season is moving on, we have had two excellent State series races, and with exciting events in some of the most stunning scenic surrounds in the world still to come on the program; the new Hell in the Hills Kentish Triathlon – a point to point race providing extra interest – and the Coles Bay Long Course Triathlon as a season finale. We are fortunate to be able to have events in such locations, but again these events do not occur without the efforts of race directors and committees, local councils & other bodies in ensuring safe and fair races. In this regard I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Adrian Granger as Triathlon Tasmania Sanctioning Officer and the Club event coordinators in their work.

The Mystate Financial Triathlon Series continues with the Hell in the Hills Kentish Triathlon on the 14 February and concludes with the fourth race at Beauty Point 14 March. The series has great competition in all age groups after two events. I encourage all members to take part in the remaining events.

Later in the month the Australian Police Games are in Hobart – with triathlon, duathlon and aquathon events run from Sandy Bay – another great ‘and newly renovated’ venue. I would encourage any Triathlon Tasmania member that can spare a coupe of hours during the Police Games program to volunteer to hep assist in these events. Our sport has great support from Tasmania Police and this is an opportunity for us to reflect that support.

Bests wishes with your training and events.

Marcus Haward
President

2010 MYSTATE FINANCIAL TRIATHLON SERIES
Full results from Race 1 of the MyState Financial Triathlon Series at Seven Mile Beach are available on Triathlon South’s website.

Australia Day was celebrated in style with Race 2 of the MyState Financial Triathlon Series at Bells Parade in Latrobe. Results are available on CCTM’s blog. Great racing was witnessed in front of a huge crowd as Jon Hitchens and Hayden Armstrong went head to head and sprinted for the finish line. Hitchens crossed the line first and now both boys have equal points in the series. Donna McFarlane took line honours in the women’s event with another blistering run split. Juniors Dylan Evans and Natasha Fitzpatrick not only won the main prize in their division and raced super quick to beat home many of their more senior competitors. Adam Coombe and Christine Moore won the veteran divisions.

Race 3 and the Tasmanian Olympic Distance Championships is not far away. Entries for the Valentine’s Day event are available on CCTM’s blog and are open until 10 Feb. No entries will be taken on the day so enter online now!!

The race will be Tasmania’s most scenic triathlon and the state’s first point-to- point event and will double as a national selection race for the ITU World Triathlon Championships in Budapest. Online entries close on Wednesday 10th February so what are you waiting for? (Please note no on-the-day entries will be available)

And don’t forget about Race 4 at Beauty Point on 14 March. It will be a great way to finish off the season! Everyone that participates in all four races of the series goes into the draw for some great prizes.

The points update for the series is now available on the Triathlon Tasmania website.

One month of summer left - that sucks! Although I bet I’m not the only one that could do with a rest from how hectic this time of year is.
Racing of all types is going on all over the state, with Tri South members popping up at most events, with some good results. The standout results in recent times being the domination of the Open men’s field in the local and state series races by the duo of Amstrong and Hitchens, the score now at one a piece in the State series. The fact that both these guys are ripping it up over distances from Sprint to Ironman is pretty damn impressive. The question being who is going to dominate the hills from Lake Barrington to Sheffield on Valentines day?
It is also good to see some new and old faces with some improving results. Donna MacFarlane although relatively new to the game, capitalising on some bad luck for Amelia Pearson at Latrobe with a victory, and Heath Peppin getting the results at home you’d want from a bike setup like that. And is surely only going to get faster with his new TriSouth race clothing that recently arrived. (contact me NOW to place an order, if you want to look equally as impressive on course or training)
Good luck to all those at the time of writing that are preparing to tackle the Wildside Mountain Bike race over the next 4 days. Supposedly this will give them a good enough excuse to miss Triathlon South’s first twilight Super Sprint and ocean swim races on Wednesday Feb 3rd at Seven Mile Beach?? Fingers crossed for some friendlier conditions, particularly in the water. Hopefully it will be a jellyfish free zone.
Ideas for next season are already starting to come in, so if there is anything you would like to see improved upon or somewhere you would like to race, don’t be scared to let a committee member know, sooner is better than later.
See you at a race sometime soon. Train hard!!! (<-do as I say, not as I do)

Cradle Coast Triathlon and Multisport are having a great 1st year. Hosting our first State Series event on Australia Day was a great experience and thoroughly enjoyed by participants, spectators and our many willing volunteers. We have been inspired by the 53 TRYstars that participated, showing us that getting in, having a go and having fun is really what it’s all about! The week before 20 budding young triathletes attended our kids training day and received some great tips from our experienced triathletes in the club. We are now busy preparing for the Kentish Hell in the Hills and hope to see you all celebrate Valentine’s day at this inaugural event that is shaping up to be a stunner!
Keep checking out our blog for all the latest info.

January has been an eventful month with 2 State races and 2 Launceston Club races. With the introduction of the Olympic distance a new and more interesting bike course has been introduced at Beauty Point the feedback for which has all been positive. The support for all races has been excellent with plenty of new faces still appearing.

A number of Launceston Club athletes made the trip to Wanaka in New Zealand to participate in their first Ironman or Half Ironman race so congratulations to everyone who took part, Amy Hinds put in a smashing performance to come in fourth in her age group.
February is a bit quieter but there is still plenty to keep you interested, the third State race is to be held at Lake Barrington and Sheffield on the 14th February and our first Club training day is being held on the 28th February incorporating the time trials for the Fairbrother Junior Development Squad. Swimming and run training continues on Monday nights at the aquatic centre with open water sessions at the Trevallyn dam on Wednesday and Friday nights. All details of training and upcoming events can be found on the Launceston Triathlon Club Website.
Good luck from LTC to all those athletes who are heading over to Geelong to compete in the 70.3 triathlon.

ITU JUNIORS
Australia and New Zealand’s best 16-19 year junior triathletes travelled to Canberra recently for Round 2 of the 2009-2010 ITU Junior Triathlon Series. Queensland’s Drew Viles (57.03) took out the Junior Mens race with Launceston’s Luke Geelan (58.59) in 13th and Dylan Evans (1.00.09) finishing 20th in very hot conditions. Geelan now sits in 4th place on the series points score. Great effort guys!
