Please note that results from this race count towards selection for the Australian Sprint distance triathlon team for the World Championships

Events
Trystars 7-9 years olds: 50m swim / 2km ride/ 500 m run
10-13 years olds: 100 m swim /4 km ride 1 km run
Super sprint 300 m swim /12 km ride/ 2.5 km run
Sprint 750 m swim/20 km ride /5 km run

Individual and team entries welcome in all events including Trystars

You must be 12 or older on race date to enter the Super sprint event and 14 to enter Sprint event

These events have a full road closure for the bike leg

Event Start: Trystars 9.00 am
Short super sprint 9.45 am
Sprint 10. 15 am

Course Details

Swim will be in open water from a beach start around a diamond shape swim course (1 lap Short super sprint, 2 laps Sprint. Trystars swim will be beach start out to a turn buoy, swim parallel to beach to second buoy then return to beach. Upon exiting the swim, competitors enter transition (Surf Road)

Upon leaving transition, competitors move to mount line on Surf Road then ride along Surf Road to junction of Surf Road and Pittwater Road. Competitors will then complete a U turn and head back along Surf Road to the initial turning point to complete their first lap (a 4km loop). They then begin lap 2, repeating course until ride distance is completed (3 or 5 laps).

At the completion of the required bike distance they return to transition before beginning the run leg Surf Road -Leyden Road-Woodhurst Road to Lewis Avenue and return to Surf Road.

Results in this race will count towards Triathlon Tasmania State series awards

This event has required permits from Tasmania Police and is sanctioned by Triathlon Australia

RACE 1: 3 January –Seven Mile Beach, Triathlon South
RACE 2: 26 January – Latrobe, Cradle Coast Triathlon & Multisport
RACE 3: 14 February – Hobart Challenge incorporating the MyState Financial Tasmanian Olympic Distance Championships, Triathlon Australia
RACE 4: 14 March – Beauty Point, Launceston Triathlon Club

FROM THE PRESIDENT
Triathlon in the state received a great boost and promotion with the School’s Triathlon Challenge in Hobart. With over 1600 primary and 600 secondary students participating it was a great event. The two days had happy kids, enthused parents, families and supporters, busy teachers and support staff and officials working together. The Premier, David Bartlett MHA in opening event, noted the benefits of the event and the sport. I would also like to acknowledge the events sponsors and thank them for helping ensuring its success. Tasmania Police again showed their support to our sport and events and I thank them for this. We have the opportunity to give something back to Tasmania Police next year through helping out officiating or volunteering in the Police games events. I would encourage Triathlon Tasmania members to look to help out in these events. Tim Smith as Race Director and initiator and organiser has placed a major event in the calendar and deserves a huge thank you from all of us. As usual members of the triathlon community pitched in and I would acknowledge the works of Triathlon South members who took time off work to help officiate at the event and the Launceston Tri Club for their support and assistance with gear. The northern Schools Triathlon Challenge in early December will no doubt be another success with the Cradle Coast club heavily involved.

At the national level Triathlon Australia has a new President, Peter Hedge, and board members ready to provide guidance for our sport in what will be both exciting and challenging times. I would like to thank Adrian Granger (Tri Tas Vice-President) for his efforts at the TA Annual General Meeting and in the countless meetings and discussions in its lead up.

In closing our triathlon season is underway. Our State Series promises to be bigger and better than last year. A range of events provide a great calendar, and with the a new long course event at Coles Bay at the end of the season organised by the Launceston Triathlon Club opportunities for all. Enjoy your training and racing.

“Down South”
What’s with this weather? Another wash out. Tri south race #1 washed out with some very ordinary weather for the entire weekend. I’m lead to believe the swim could have probably be conducted in the transition area? Bring on race #2 December 13^th. With an extra couple weeks training everyone should be fitter and faster right? (and the water warmer!!!)
It hasn’t been all that bad though, with the Sandford Time trial series recently completed (TS members, Hitchens, Johnstone and Jarrett taking home a title or two) and a small field turning up to tackle the second MTB duathlon and enduro. Hopefully the weather will be kinder for those competing in Busselton this weekend, although possibly not too kind like it was in Shepparton a few weeks ago, with only 1 of the 3 Tasmanians coping with the extreme heat and finishing.

Although the first race didn’t go ahead it was great to see a bunch of new names on the list of registrations as paid TA members, which hopefully shows the sport is getting stronger and should mean an awesome season ahead. Don’t forget we are offering a club Olympic distance race this season too. So on behalf of the TriSouth committee we all look forward to meeting you over the upcoming season, as I’m sure you look forward to meeting us too. Stay tuned for a possible pre Christmas get together.
For those not coming to race on December 13^th at Seven Mile Beach 9:00 am (sign up, go on do it) have a safe and happy Christmas and train hard, those days off are for training, not eating.

CCTM hits 100!
We are pleased to announce that CCTM has just reached 100 members. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and interest in the development of our club. We are extremely pleased with our clubs progression. We are happy to hear from anyone who has any ideas or items that could be included on our blog. Remember CCTM is your club!

Congratulations to everyone who braved the weather and participated in our first triathlon of the year at Beauty Point. It was great to see so many new faces and a few who had travelled from other clubs as well.
Events this month include the last race of the aquathlon/duathlon series on the 12^th of December at the Trevallyn dam, an education day for our Junior members on the 13^th and a social swim in the gorge followed by a club xmas breakfast on the 19^th. If you are not a member now is the time to join, before the xmas festivities take their toll, all details of events and training sessions can be found on our website.

2010 MYSTATE TRIATHLON SERIES
The 2010 MyState Triathlon Series is fast approaching. After a highly successful series in 2009 people have been working hard to make the 2010 series even bigger and better! The official launch of the series will take place on 22^nd December. Keep your eye on the local media for coverage. Also on this date information regarding the series will be available on the Triathlon Tasmania website. The first race is at Seven Mile Beach and is organised by Tri South. To enter the first event go to www.triathlontasmania.org and click on the link to Tri South.
There will be some great prizes up for grabs for those athletes that participate in all four events…. so enter now!

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT
We say goodbye and goodluck to one of our top athletes, Luke Geelan who has moved to train under Jaime Turner in Wollongong and join an elite training squad. We look forward to following his results.

Luke along with Dylan Evans and Jonathan Butler will represent Tasmania at Runaway Bay, Qld for the 1^st ITU Junior event of the season. Good Luck boys!

Luke and Dylan have been invited to stay on at Runaway Bay for the National Junior Development Camp. Where they will train under Australia’s top coaches with some of the best junior athletes. We wish them all the very best.

IRONMAN 70.3 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to the Tasmanians who raced at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Clearwater, USA recently. Joe Gambles capped off a great season in the USA going under the former world record to claim fifth place. Hayden Armstrong and Susan Casey did an outstanding job to back up after the gruelling Hawaii Ironman in October to finish sixth and fourth respectively in their age-groups

WALTON NAMED AIS COACH OF THE YEAR
The Australian Sports Commission announced triathlon coach Craig Walton as recipient of the 2009 Australian Institute of Sport Coach of the Year award at a ceremony in Canberra in November.

Under Walton’s coaching and guidance, Australia has continued its world dominance of women’s triathlon, with Emma Moffatt - joint winner of the 2009 AIS Athlete of the Year award - being crowned 2009 ITU World Champion.

AIS Director Professor Peter Fricker paid tribute to Walton’s remarkable achievement and commitment to both the AIS and Australian triathlon.
'For Craig, to win the AIS Coach of the Year award over such a high-quality field is a reflection of his outstanding coaching ability,' Professor Fricker said.

'Craig deserves much of the credit for the tremendous results achieved by Australia’s Emma Moffatt on the international triathlon circuit.'
'His leadership, professionalism and enthusiasm have seen Emma finish 2009 as the world number one female triathlete.'

AUSTRALIAN POLICE GAMES
T3 events are working with Tasmania Police on delivery of events with in the Australian Police Games in Tasmania next February. T3 events are coordinating the events FOC for the police given the wonderful support given to triathlon in Tasmania over the last 20 years.
Triathlon Tasmania would like to support t3 events and the police by inviting members to act in on course roles during the conduct of the events. The commitment would be for a couple of hours per event. All events are at Nutgrove Beach Sandy Bay.
